Towson's D'Ago Hunter Named National Special Teams Player Of The Week
Towson's D'Ago Hunter garnered FCS National Player of the Week for his kickoff returning in the Tigers' win over Monmouth on Oct. 29.
Towson senior kick returner/punt returner D’Ago Hunter was selected as the FedEx Ground FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week by Stats Perform.
Hunter amassed 334 all-purpose yards, with 271 coming on returns, as Towson beat Monmouth, 52-48, last Saturday. The senior averaged 36.8 yards on five kickoff returns, highlighted by a 92-yarder for a touchdown with 8:13 to play. He also averaged 45.0 yards on two punt returns, including a 74-yarder that set up a TD. The 334 all-purpose yards are the 3rd-most in FCS this season and fell 23 yards shy of a school record.
CAA Football player has now had seven players recognized as a FedEx Ground National Players of the Week by Stats Perform. Delaware linebacker Johnny Buchanan was named National Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 5 following his school-record 23-tackle performance in the Blue Hens’ victory over Navy.
William & Mary cornerback Jalen Jones received National Defensive Player of the Week accolades on Sept. 12 after intercepting three passes in the Tribe’s win over Campbell. Delaware quarterback Nolan Henderson was chosen as the National Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 19 after passing for a career-high 379 yards and four touchdowns in the Blue Hens’ 42-21 triumph over Rhode Island.
UAlbany quarterback Reese Poffenbarger earned National Freshman of the Week honors on Oct. 17 after throwing for 337 yards and four touchdowns against Hampton. On Oct. 24, New Hampshire punter Sean Lehane was named National Special Teams Player of the Week after averaging 44.8 yards on five punts and dropping four of them inside the 10-yard line in a victory over Elon, and Stony Brook quarterback Charlie McKee was chosen as the National Freshman of the Week after throwing for a career-high 249 yards and three touchdowns in a win against Maine.
Along with Hunter’s award, Stats Perform recognized Elon defensive back Omar Rogers as honorable mention for FCS National Defensive Player of the Week.
