Villanova junior cornerback Jaquan Amos has been selected as the STATS FCS National Defensive Player of the Week.
Amos recorded seven tackles, recovered a fumble and returned an interception 27 yards for a touchdown in Villanova’s 34-14 win at No. 13 Colgate on Aug. 24. The junior defensive back’s fumble recovery set up the Wildcats’ first touchdown and his pick six increased VU’s lead to 14-0 in the second quarter.
Amos was part of a strong defensive effort that limited Colgate to 288 total yards.
In addition to Amos’ award, three CAA Football players – Maine quarterback Chris Ferguson (Offensive), Stony Brook punter Mitchell Wright (Special Teams) and William & Mary quarterback Hollis Mathis (Rookie) — received honorable mention for national accolades from STATS.
