Chanticleers Close Strong In Victory Over UMass
Coastal Carolina rallied from a 6-3 halftime deficit to earn a dominant 24-13 road victory at UMass.
After a first half of missed opportunities, Coastal Carolina posted 21 second half points to earn a 24-13 road victory against UMass at McGuirk Alumni Stadium in Amherst, Mass., on Saturday.
The Chanticleers missed a pair of field goals and turned the ball over twice in the game’s first 30 minutes of play, but completely controlled the second half en route to the 11-point win.

The teams combined for 951 yards of total offense, but points weren’t necessarily plentiful—particularly in the early-going. UMass led 6-3 at the break and the first touchdown of the game was not scored until the 6:50 mark of the third quarter.
At that point, it was Marcus Outlow—who’d total 91 rushing yards on the day—bursting through the middle on a one-yard plunge to put Coastal ahead 10-6.
UMass would answer, as Andrew Ford found Sadiq Palmer on a 22-yard touchdown pass to cap a five-play, 74-yard drive—but that would cap the Minutmen scoring on Saturday.

The Chanticleers answered with a pair of touchdown pass by Fred Payton, who went 5-of-7 for 107 yards and rushed five times for 44 yards off the bench.
Senior wide receiver Malcolm Williams was heavily involved in the passing game, turning four catches into 153 yards and the score that put Coastal up for good, 17-13, with 2:42 to go in the third quarter.
For UMass, it was Andy Isabella shining once again. The senior caught 10 passes for 174 yards in the loss—his third consecutive game with double-digit catches and 150-or-more receiving yards.
The Minutemen will be back on FloFootball on Saturday, Nov. 3, when Liberty heads to Amherst for UMass homecoming. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM CT.
